R.I.P. Limewire

LimeWire Disavows New ‘Pirate Edition’ – WSJ.com:

A federal court has permanently enjoined the New York company from distributing its software [...] But earlier this week a new version, “LimeWire Pirate Edition,” surfaced online, purportedly created by a “secret” team of software developers.

The court further forbid any use of “Limewire” brand on software involving file sharing.

This will certainly bring some retaliation. If this “secret” team ever created Limewire Pirate Edition, some of its source must be out in the open. A matter of time for anything superior to Limewire be released.

Google to Give Staff 10% Raise

2010.11.10

Google to Give Staff 10% Raise – WSJ.com:

Moving to plug the defection of staff to competitors, Google Inc. is giving a 10% raise to all of its 23,000 employees.

The pay hike comes as Google ramps up its battle with competitors, especially neighboring Facebook Inc., in a fight to secure talented staff. Roughly 10% of Facebook’s employees are Google veterans and other Silicon Valley companies have aggressively poached employees from the Internet giant.

Neighbor’s grass is always greener. Would not mind working for Facebook or Google. Actually, Google might be better at this point in time.

User Interface

2010.11.09

“[UI] is an interface between a human and a database. You can’t have an interface unless you can connect to both things.”

from an interview with Ryan Singer.

via. The Web Practitioner’s Blog

If you have a beautifully connecting program to a database but your UI is ugly, then you don’t have a program, but garbage.
